What LGBTQ+ Couples Should Look For in an Inclusive Las Vegas Wedding Photographer

Finding a wedding photographer is about more than liking someone's photos.
Of course style matters and in Las Vegas there are hundreds to choose from. You're going to spend years looking back at your wedding images, so you should absolutely love the way they look.
But after photographing weddings for more than 17 years, I've learned that some of the most important parts of the experience have very little to do with equipment or a preset.
Your photographer is one of the people you'll spend the most time with on your wedding day. We're there during the nervous moments before the ceremony, family photos, portraits, timeline changes, and some of the most emotional parts of the entire celebration.
For LGBTQ+ couples, there can also be additional questions when choosing a photographer.
Do they have experience photographing LGBTQ+ weddings?
Do they use inclusive language?
Will they make assumptions about your relationship or how your wedding day should look?
Can they create photographs that feel natural and authentic to who you are as a couple?
Over the years, I've photographed LGBTQ+ weddings, same-sex weddings, vow renewals, engagement sessions, and elopements throughout Las Vegas. I've worked with couples planning traditional weddings, private chapel ceremonies, downtown celebrations, and weddings that completely rewrote the rulebook.
If you're looking for an LGBTQ-friendly wedding photographer in Las Vegas, here are a few things I think are worth considering before you book.

Why Las Vegas Is Such a Popular Destination for LGBTQ+ Weddings
There are plenty of places where LGBTQ+ couples can get married today, but Las Vegas continues to be one of the most popular inclusive wedding destinations in the country for a reason.
Part of that comes down to confidence and peace of mind. Nevada became the first state to protect same-sex marriage in its state constitution through a vote of the people, giving many couples an added sense of security that their marriage rights are firmly established here.
Las Vegas has also spent decades welcoming couples from all walks of life. From iconic wedding chapels to luxury resorts, many venues and vendors have extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ couples. For destination couples planning a wedding from another state—or even another country—that can make the process feel a lot less intimidating.
And then there's the simple fact that Las Vegas makes getting married easy. There is no residency requirement, no waiting period after receiving your marriage license, and countless ways to celebrate, whether you're planning a private elopement, a chapel wedding, or a full wedding weekend with family and friends.
After photographing weddings here for more than 17 years, I've seen firsthand why so many couples choose Las Vegas. For many, it's not just about the convenience. It's about being able to focus on celebrating their relationship instead of worrying about whether they'll feel welcomed, supported, and comfortable throughout the experience.

Build a Wedding Vendor Team That is Authentically Inclusive
Your LGBTQ+ inclusive wedding photographer isn't the only vendor you'll spend time with throughout the wedding planning process. You'll likely interact with an officiant, planner, florist, venue coordinator, hair and makeup artist, and several other wedding professionals along the way.
One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to choose vendors who make you feel comfortable from the very beginning. Pay attention to how they communicate, whether they listen, and whether you feel like you can be yourself around them.
Las Vegas is a wedding city, which means you'll find plenty of vendors who describe themselves as welcoming, inclusive, or LGBTQ-friendly. That's wonderful, but those words alone don't always tell you much. Instead, look for evidence. Can they show real LGBTQ+ weddings they've worked? Do they use language that welcomes different types of couples and wedding experiences? Do their reviews seem authentic and inclusive?
The wedding planning process is just as important as the wedding day itself. Finding vendors who make you feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely excited to celebrate alongside you can make all the difference.
What About Posing?
One concern I hear from many LGBTQ+ couples is whether they'll be expected to fit into traditional wedding roles during portraits.
The short answer? You shouldn't have to.
The best wedding photos happen when a photographer takes the time to understand the couple in front of the camera rather than trying to fit them into a pre-existing formula. Some couples are playful. Some are quiet. Some love being the center of attention, while others would rather forget the camera is there altogether. Every relationship has its own dynamic, and that should be reflected in the way a wedding day is photographed.
It's also important to communicate your comfort level with public displays of affection to your photographer. Wedding photos often include moments like holding hands, cuddling, forehead touches, or kissing, but every couple has a different comfort level—especially when portraits are taking place in busy public locations. A photographer should be able to create beautiful, authentic images while respecting the boundaries that make you feel comfortable.
My approach has always been less about creating perfect poses and more about creating opportunities for genuine interaction. Most people have never been professionally photographed before, and the goal isn't to create stiff, picture-perfect poses. It's to create photographs that feel natural and reflect the relationship that's already there.

Not Every LGBTQ+ Wedding Looks the Same
One of the reasons I encourage couples to look at real weddings instead of just portfolio highlights is because it helps show how different every wedding can be.
Brittany & Estefany | A Simple Affair Wedding
Brittany and Estefany's wedding at A Simple Affair is a great example of how every couple brings their own personality to their wedding day.
While their celebration had all the elements of a timeless wedding, my favorite memories came from the moments that felt uniquely them. During portraits, Estefany proudly showed off her muscles with a strong-man pose that had everyone laughing, while Brittany's big personality kept the energy going all the way through the reception.
What I remember most wasn't a specific decoration or detail. It was how excited they were to finally be married. That excitement showed up everywhere—from the ceremony to the dance floor—and it's still what stands out most when I think back on their wedding day.
Hannah & Tatum | The Doyle Wedding
Hannah and Tatum's wedding at The Doyle was one of those celebrations that felt completely and unapologetically like them.
They incorporated meaningful details throughout the day, including pride flags, lesbian flag colors, and even a rainbow-layered wedding cake. One of my favorite memories was watching Tatum arrive at the venue in cowboy boots and a button-up shirt with her suit bag slung over her shoulder like an athlete arriving for game day. It was such a perfect reflection of her personality and set the tone for the rest of the celebration.
But what I remember most wasn't any of the decor or wedding details - it was how often they found their way back to each other. Throughout the day, Hannah and Tatum kept sneaking away for quiet moments together. No matter what was happening around them, they always seemed drawn back to one another. For me, that's what makes their wedding memorable. Not the flags, the venue, or the details themselves, but how obvious it was that they genuinely loved being together.
Jared & Edward | Classic Vegas Glamour Intimate Wedding
Jared and Edward's wedding day felt like a love letter to classic Las Vegas.
Because of their chapel's photography policy, I wasn't able to photograph the ceremony itself, but the rest of the day took us across several iconic Las Vegas locations and gave us plenty of opportunities to document their story.
From riding through downtown in a vintage Rolls Royce to popping champagne on top of the El Cortez parking garage, every part of the day felt stylish, intentional, and undeniably Vegas.
What stood out most, though, was how naturally they fit together. They had the kind of effortless chemistry that makes photography easy. One minute they looked like they belonged in a wedding magazine, and the next they were laughing together in the backseat of the car or celebrating under the lights of downtown Las Vegas.
When I think back on Jared and Edward's wedding, I remember the combination of elegance and joy. It was fashionable without feeling overdone, sophisticated without feeling stiff, and full of genuine moments that never felt staged. Their wedding is a perfect reminder that a Las Vegas wedding can be every bit as timeless and refined as it is fun.
Celina & Bot | Anime Rave Wedding @ Substance Nightclub
Celina and Bot had one of the most unique wedding days I've photographed in seventeen years. Before the wedding, Celina described their aesthetic as "clutter chaos"—and after walking into their wedding at Substance on Fremont Street, I immediately understood what she meant.
Their celebration blended anime, cosplay, rave culture, alternative fashion, and pure creative self-expression into something that felt completely their own. Guests arrived in elaborate costumes, confetti filled the ceremony, and every detail reflected the community they had built around themselves.
What I remember most, though, was how unapologetically themselves they were. They weren't trying to fit into anyone else's idea of what a wedding should look like. They created a celebration that reflected exactly who they are, surrounded by people who loved them for it. Walking into their wedding was stepping into a world that could only have belonged to Celina and Bot—and honestly, that's what made it so much fun to photograph.
Frequently Asked Questions About LGBTQ+ Weddings in Las Vegas
Can LGBTQ+ couples legally get married in Las Vegas?
Yes. Same-sex marriage is legal in Nevada, and Las Vegas remains one of the most popular wedding destinations in the world for LGBTQ+ couples.
Do LGBTQ+ couples need different marriage paperwork in Nevada?
No. The marriage license process is the same for all couples getting married in Nevada.
What are some LGBTQ+ inclusive wedding chapels in Las Vegas?
Las Vegas has a variety of wedding chapels that regularly work with LGBTQ+ couples. Some of the most popular options include Little White Wedding Chapel, Viva Las Vegas Chapel, Sure Thing Chapel, and Sure Thing Too Chapel. Each offers a different experience, from classic Vegas charm to a more modern and alternative wedding atmosphere.
One of the reasons these chapels are so popular is that they're welcoming, experienced with destination couples, and each offers a completely different wedding experience—from classic Vegas nostalgia to something more modern and unconventional.
Can our friend officiate our wedding in Las Vegas?
Yes. Many Las Vegas couples have a friend or family member officiate their ceremony. The person will need to become ordained through a recognized organization and receive authorization from Clark County before the wedding date. Because the approval process can take several weeks, it's best to start early if you're hoping to have a friend or family member officiate your ceremony.
Many couples use American Marriage Ministries because the ordination process is free and can be completed online.

The Sarah Jay Experience
At the end of the day, I don't believe great wedding photography starts with a camera.
It starts with trust.
My goal has never been to fit couples into a specific mold or recreate the same wedding over and over again. It's to create an experience where you can relax, be yourselves, and stay focused on what matters most: marrying the person you love.
You shouldn't have to spend your wedding day worrying about whether you're standing the "right" way, acting the "right" way, or fitting someone else's idea of what a wedding should look like.
Whether you're still researching for LGBTQ+ inclusive wedding photographers in Las Vegas, narrowing down venues, or building your vendor team, I hope this guide gave you a helpful place to start.
